This exceptional tour invites you to journey back in time, from the capital city of Algiers to the magnificent remains of UNESCO-listed Roman cities such as Djemila and Timgad.

Day 1: Algiers
Scheduled flight from Germany to Algiers. Meet and greet by the local guide. City tour including the Notre-Dame d’Afrique Basilica, the Casbah with its old houses, elegant palaces and the citadel. If time permits, visit the Bardo Museum, followed by the Martyrs’ Memorial with panoramic views over the city.
Dinner and overnight in Algiers.
Day 2: Djemila – Constantine
Departure to Djemila and visit of the well-preserved ruins of Cuicul (UNESCO) at 900 m altitude. Continue to Sétif, former capital of the Roman province of Mauretania Sitifensis. Visit the archaeological museum and enjoy a stroll through the city with Roman remains. Proceed to Constantine. Dinner and overnight in Constantine.
Day 3: Constantine – Timgad
Visit of Constantine, famous for its suspension bridges spanning the Rhummel Gorge. Discover the old town perched on a plateau at 650 m. In the afternoon, drive to Timgad. Visit the ruins of Timgad (UNESCO), founded by Emperor Trajan. Then excursion to the “Balcony of Ghouffi” – an oasis and abandoned Berber village in a deep gorge of the Aurès mountains. Stop at the El Kantara Gorge and its Roman bridge (Calceus Herculis). Continue through the El Abioud canyon towards Biskra, the “gateway to the desert”.
Dinner and overnight stay in Biskra.
Day 4: Biskra – El Oued
Departure towards the Great Eastern Erg desert until reaching El Oued. Thanks to the Ghout irrigation system, agriculture is possible in this region. In the afternoon, 4×4 excursion in the dunes.

Day 5 (Travel day): El Oued – Ghardaïa
Long drive to Ghardaïa through the varied landscapes of northern central Sahara: salt lakes, dunes, etc. Stop in Laghouat for a short visit including the mosque and the Sidi El Hajj fortress. Arrival in the Mzab Valley, inhabited by the Mozabites, Muslims practicing a traditional form of Islam.
Dinner and overnight in Ghardaïa.
Day 6: M’Zab
Visit of Ghardaïa and the pentapolis (five fortified towns, UNESCO). This architecture inspired figures such as Le Corbusier. In the morning, visit the lively market and the old town. In the afternoon, tour focusing on the traditional irrigation system. Then short drive to Bounoura to visit the Qasr Bounoura fort. Stop in Melika, with its white mosque and the tombs of saints. At 5 p.m., visit the holy town of Beni Isguen with the Boulila Tower.

Day 7: Flight Ghardaïa 09:20 – Algiers 10:50
Transfer to the airport for the domestic flight Ghardaïa–Algiers.
Drive along the turquoise coast to Tipasa (approx. 50 km, UNESCO site), founded by the Phoenicians and later a Roman military colony under Emperor Claudius. Albert Camus spent part of his childhood here. Continue to Cherchell to visit the ancient city of Caesarea Mauretaniae. On the return trip, stop at the Royal Mausoleum of Kbor Roumia (1st century).

Day 8: Return flight
Morning visit to the National Museum of Fine Arts. Open to the public since the 1930s, the museum houses no fewer than 8,000 works, including paintings by major Dutch and French masters such as Brugghen, Renoir, Monet, Matisse, Delacroix, Van Goyen, Gauguin and Pissarro. Lunch at the Jardin d’Essai. The Jardin d’Essai is located at the foot of the National Museum of Fine Arts. Created in 1832, its western wing is occupied by the French Garden, while its south-eastern wing hosts the English Garden. It also features several stone sculptures by Émile Gaudissard.
Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
